What Can You Buy?

Around 250 galleries across England are registered Own Art outlets.

You can buy paintings, sculpture, glassware, ceramics, photography, jewellery, furniture and textiles; in fact, you can buy almost anything by a living artist which you see in one of our participating galleries.

Some galleries will help you commission something unique by an artist you admire. Ask the gallery of your choice if this option is available.

How Do You Own Art?

Firstly you'll need to visit a gallery and find something that you want to buy. You can then use Own Art to take out a loan to buy it. The gallery will help you with this.

You need to be:

  • Over 18 years old
  • Resident in the UK
  • In possession of a bank or building society account that can operate standing orders
You will need to take two forms of identification with you to the gallery - something with an address on it such as a driver's licence or utilities bill and something with your signature on it, such as a passport, credit or debit card.

The participating gallery that you buy the art from will help you complete the credit agreement. After satisfactory credit checking, a direct debit instruction will be set up to make your repayments.

How Much Can You Borrow?

Loans are available up to £2,000 or as little as £100. The loan amount can be a part-payment towards an item that costs more than £2,000. Or you can buy several lower value items at a time with a combined value of up to £2,000 or more.

The amount you borrow is then paid back over 10 months in equal instalments - interest free*.

There is no administrative charge or handling fee when you take out the loan so you will never be paying more for your purchase than the ticket price. Some galleries may ask you to pay a deposit.
